Childrens Museum. Experience learning through

State
Capitol of Texas. Tour Texas' historical and
architecturally
unique State Capitol. This is great for a rainy day. (463-0063).
Those
Famous Bats. Between April and October, take
a blanket and picnic dinner, and enjoy the spectacle of the
Congress Avenue Bats. Watch from an observation area near the
Austin American-Statesman on the southeast corner of Congress
Avenue and Town Lake.
Wildflower
Center. See the natural beauty of the Texas Hill
Country and enjoy the architecture of the Lady Bird Johnson
Wildflower Center, devoted to Texas native plants and wildflowers.
(292-4100) Located at 4801 La Crosse. Bring your inline skates
and have some fun on the Veloway - a three mile paved loop for
bikes and skates next door to the Wildflower Center.
Central
Market. Have lunch at Central Market, an European-
style market and restaurant at 4001 North Lamar, with outdoor
patio and children's play area. Live music on weekend evenings.

Barton
Springs Pool. Swim in the constant 68-degree
waters of Barton Springs Pool, a beautiful spring- fed swimming
pool close to downtown. Then, take a ride on the Zilker Park
mini-train.
Austin
Nature Center. Explore the Nature Center, located
within Zilker Park, with exhibits on natural history and botany.
The most interesting feature is the dinosaur tracks, which are
estimated to be 99 million years old. Open Tuesday through Saturday,
9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Bob
Bullock Texas State History Museum. Relive the
pages of Texas history at the interactive exhibits, artifacts,

UT
Austin. Take in all the sights on The University
of Texas campus, the largest public university in the nation.
Home to 50,000 students, the campus is best seen from atop the
UT Tower, where tours are available. (475-6633)
Mount
Bonnell Park. Ascend all 99 steps to the top
of Mount Bonnell to enjoy a panoramic view of the city skyline,
Lake Austin and the surrounding Hill Country. Be careful with
children - there are steep cliffs. |
