Austin’s Weather

Austin's weather is one of the reasons so many people come to Austin and stay! The sky is usually blue and the sun shines 300 days of the year. The prevailing breeze is from the southeast throughout the year.

Hottest months: July, August, September.
Coldest months: December, January and February.
Average rainfall: 32 inches per year
Most rainy months: Spring & Fall

During the winter, "Northers" blow in and bring cold wind and freezing temperatures. But these don't last long. There are only about 30 days of really cold weather each year and the temperature rarely stays below freezing for a whole day. Snowfall is rare, and usually results in schools closing and people taking the day off to play in the snow.

“The ideal solar orientation is north facing, with the garage on
the west side. You'll be able to open your rear windows to
bring in a southern breeze, and sit out on the patio in the
evenings. If the rear of your house faces west, you will need
trees or a porch to shield the afternoon sun. In Austin, our main
energy concern is cooling, rather than heating. A home with
good insulation, trees and proper orientation will be a lot more
enjoyable and easier to cool. We always keep a compass
handy when helping our clients to select a home!” Roselind
