| Real Estate Taxes: |
The real property taxes vary in the Austin area according
to the taxing jurisdiction in each location. Generally
rates total between 2.3% and 3.3% of the appraised value.
Each year, on January 1, the Country Appraisal District
sets a value for each property for the current year. This
valuation is sent to you in April. You have until May
31 to file a protest. If no protest is filed, this value
will stand. Tax rates are set in September, and bills
are sent out in October. A lot of information is available

Austin
Energy (Electric Utility). There are
a number of different electric, gas, water and wastewater
companies serving different parts of the Austin area.
The largest is Austin Energy. Coldwell Banker has a

City

Capital
Metro provides bus service.
Bergstrom
Airport, gateway to Austin, is located
on the site of the former Bergstrom Air Force Base in
southeast Austin on Texas Highway 71. It is eight miles
from downtown.

Driver
Licensing FAQs is a Texas Department
of Public Safety site. New Texas residents must obtain
a Texas drivers license within 30 days of establishing
residence here.
Auto Registration:
Automobiles must be registered within 30 days of establishing
residency. This process requires:
- proof of insurance (from your insurance agent)
- Texas State vehicle inspection (form VI-30A)
- Certificate of Title
Registration services are performed at the County Tax
Office.
Auto Insurance Automobile liability insurance is
mandatory in Texas. You are required to carry proof of
insurance when driving. All persons in the front seat
must wear seatbelts. Children up to age 2 must ride in
approved infant car seats. Children, ages 2-4, must ride
in approved seats or wear a standard automobile seat belt.
Auto Inspection Prior to registration your vehicle
must pass inspection at an authorized service station
or garage. They will give you a VI-30A form, verifying
the VIN number of your out-of-state vehicle. |
